
Kena is a freelance journalist and most recently a 2025 JAWS (Journalism and Women Symposium) Health Journalism Fellow.
She reports stories that uncover disinformation, human rights violations, and other wrongdoing through open source research and investigative reporting. Kena regularly incorporates OSINT methods and tools, such as using social media ad libraries to uncover a provincial government disinformation campaign, in her reporting.
Kena's reporting on female genital cutting was awarded the 2024 Amnesty International Canada Media Award. Her reporting on global horse blood farms was cited in Vox and was the top read story for the publishing outlet in 2023.

Kena is a former software engineer and holds a degree in computer engineering. She is skilled in all things programming and data, including its associated tools such as Python, Excel, SQL, and more.
She's currently working on her French (working proficiency) and welcomes language learning recommendations.
